How is coaching different from therapy or consulting?
In coaching, the focus is on the present, future goals, and strategies and actions necessary to reach those goals. Coaching may address certain emotions, but the method of approach is always action-oriented. In contrast, therapy tends to concentrate on resolving emotions that result from past events to improve an individual's psychological health.
Consulting generally refers to a process in which an expert provides analysis of and solutions to an individual's or a business's problems; a consultant provides a roadmap and the client elects whether to follow it. Although a coach will sometimes suggest a step or approach to a client (when the coach has the appropriate expertise), provision of solutions is not the goal of a coaching relationship. Instead, coaching is a collaborative effort in which the coach provides the framework in which the client may explore and discover his or her best solutions.
What is Retreat Coaching?
To retreat is to take time away from one's everyday life to rest, relax, reflect and recharge. All of us need that time to go within, especially women who are so used to being all things to all people. We take time out to share with others, find some solitude and reconnect with our authentic selves, which in turn allows us to connect with others. My retreats take all forms:
- day hiking retreats
- women's day or weekend retreats to beautiful restful locations
- retreats for your business or company - "team-building"
- custom retreats created for your group of friends, family or colleagues
